Well, I don't know if anyone else has played with it, but for the record ACPI
on SMP seems to work. I have two SMP machines with ACPI support. One is a
dual P3-600, and it hangs when booting an ACPI kernel. I'll try to get some
more detailed info when I can rig up a serial console and figure out how to use
ACPI_DEBUG. The other machine is a quad xeon, and it boots ok, although it has
some issues with the PCI busses:

acpi0: <Acer 12345678> on motherboard
acpi0: power button is handled as a fixed feature programming model.
acpi_timer0: <24-bit timer at 3.579545MHz> on acpi0
acpi_pcib0: <Host-PCI bridge> on acpi0
pci0: <PCI bus> on acpi_pcib0
acpi_pcib1: <Host-PCI bridge> on acpi0
acpi_pcib1: could not evaluate _BBN - AE_BUFFER_OVERFLOW
device_probe_and_attach: acpi_pcib1 attach returned 6
acpi_pcib1: <Host-PCI bridge> on acpi0
acpi_pcib1: could not evaluate _BBN - AE_BUFFER_OVERFLOW
device_probe_and_attach: acpi_pcib1 attach returned 6

Also, the power button doesn't power off the machine, but I assume that has
something to do with the 'fixed feature' message. The dumps for the two
machines can be found here:
