I've been tracking FreeBSD -CURRENT on my laptop (which is now a Dell
Inspiron 5000e; until recently, it was a similar machine, but I bought
a "real" 5000e from someone via Ebay) daily.

As a result, I got the import of acpica-unix-20021002; it seems to work,
but I just noticed that I'm seeing some messages:

Oct 9 08:02:57 localhost kernel: acpi_ec0: EcRead: Failed waiting for EC to process read command.
Oct 9 08:02:57 localhost kernel: ACPI-0432: *** Error: Handler for [EmbeddedControl] returned AE_ERROR

I do have

	debug.acpi.avoid="_SB_.PCI0.PX40.SIO_"

in /boot/loader.conf (as suggested by someone else who also has a 5000e,
and who has much more experience with FreeBSD than I).

The ASL and DSDT files are available at

	http://www.catwhisker.org/~david/FreeBSD/laptop.asl
and
	http://www.catwhisker.org/~david/FreeBSD/laptop.dsdt
respectively.

As noted, this does not appear to interfere with normal operation, though
I am not certain of this.

For reference, I am building today's -CURRENT while running:

g1-9(5.0-C)[10] uname -a
FreeBSD g1-9.catwhisker.org 5.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT #7: Tue Oct  8 09:13:42 PDT 2002     root@g1-9.catwhisker.org:/common/S3/obj/usr/src/sys/LAPTOP_30W  i386
g1-9(5.0-C)[11]

I will be happy to do any testing I can to help get this figured out;
the laptop is configured to boot from any of the first 3 slices, so I
have some recourse, even if one boot slice becomes unusable.

Thank you,
david
