Reverting to a kernel+modules built from 3/7 -CURRENT and using custom asl
worked.  This kernel had some patches from Warner's "power" branch
applied.  I can't see how they'd affect Fn+F8, but I'll try merging them
in with the newer kernel sources to see if they make a difference.
