Title: The request of maintainer change
Author: Daichi GOTO <daichi@jp.freebsd.org>,

1. Current activity status
==========================

Currently, I think that the maintainers of JDK ports are the following
people:

  JDK118:           Nate Williams <nate@FreeBSD.org>
  JDK122:           Maxim Sobolev <sobomax@FreeBSD.org>
  JDK131:           Maxim Sobolev <sobomax@FreeBSD.org>

  Linux JDK122: Ernst de Haan <znerd@FreeBSD.org>
  Linux JDK131:     Kevin Lo <kevlo@FreeBSD.org>
  Linux JDK140: Ernst de Haan <znerd@FreeBSD.org>
  Linux IBM JDK130: Hye-Shik Chang <perky@python.or.kr>

Thank you very much for your maintenance of JDK ports.

2. Problems
===========

In October/November 2001, I did send-pr the Japanese font problems'
patch about IBM JDK130 and Linux JDK122.

  o Problem Report ports/31578,
    ``patch for /usr/ports/java/linux-ibm-jdk13 about Japanese font
      representatio'',
    http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=31578

  o Problem Report ports/32063,
    ``patch for /usr/ports/java/linux-jdk about Japanese font
      representation'',
    http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=32063

And SADA-san of commiter took charge of these problems. The PR31578 was
closed at Dec 27 2001 but the PR32063 is not yet because of no answer
from maintainer.

3. Request
==========

Currently, it is beginning to move by ports@jp.freebsd.org to make the
improved scalable Japanese fonts into standard Japanese fonts[1]. For
this reason, the patch of all JDK ports is near due to be updated
similarly in the future. This updating is very important. Since the old
scalable font was dirty, there was a problem in using as standard and it
was often thought that it was inferior compared with other Linux
Distoributions.

I propose here. Let's change the maintainer of JDK port into
java@freebsd.org. In order to correspond more promptly, I think it more
excellent to do so. Considering the spread of Java, and the user layer
across which it goes all over the world, java@freebsd.org considers it
more desirable to be a maintainer rather than an individual becomes a
maintainer.

If approval is obtained, I will want to rewrite MAINTAINER to
java@freebsd.org by SADA-san. How is it?
