Hi,

I just tried delete ppc, the boot process does go further, 
but stops right before ad0 probing. (i installed -current on the
hdd by moving the hdd to another laptop)

Could you ask your friend send me a copy of his kernel config?
I'll try out -stable GENERIC later.
