Huummm.... Does aterm itselfs support CJK characters?
I think you should use
	kterm ($PORTSDIR/japanese/kterm) for euc-jp/shift_jis/jis
	eterm ($PORTSDIR/korean/eterm) for Korean
	aterm ($PORTSDIR/chinese/aterm) for Big5
Try them!
