The PC-9821 series is the system based on x86 architecture, but it's not PC/AT compatible.
So, You can try FreeBSD(98).
To install, the FD image under
    ftp://daemon.jp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD-PC98/dists/
can be used.
( FreeBSD(98) 5.2R-Rev01 corresponding to FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE isn't released yet ).

The related information is in
    http://www.nisoc.or.jp/~karl/freebsd-pc98/
(but It's Japanese only.)
# There was an English document, before.
# But at present, it seems that it doesn't exist.

Excuse my poor English, please.

thank you.
